The Municipality of Vlieland is looking for a

Maintenance, infrastructure and waste employee

for 36 hours per week

Why work at the maintenance department?

In the Maintenance Department, you’ll join a team of colleagues who are eager to get their hands dirty. The job is primarily outdoors, providing a sense of freedom, and you’ll immediately see the impact of your work. You’ll be working with various machines, tools, and vehicles, so it’s important to know how to use them. It would also be great if you’re capable of maintaining and repairing these machines and
vehicles. If you have technical insight and enjoy hands-on work, this position is perfect for you!

Introduction of the Municipality:

The Municipality of Vlieland has approximately 37 employees, divided into three teams: maintenance team, policy team, and execution & support team. Employees in all teams enjoy a high degree of freedom and autonomy in carrying out their tasks.

Your team, the maintenance department

The Maintenance Department currently has nine employees who handle a range of tasks, including green space maintenance, cemetery upkeep, waste collection, maintenance of municipal buildings, water management, and road and sewer works.

What does your workday look like?

No two days are the same, as every day brings new challenges. In this position, you’ll mainly be involved in technical maintenance tasks such as the scheduled servicing of municipal machines and vehicles, trouble-shooting malfunctions in machinery, sewage pumps, street lighting, and more. You’ll also perform repairs such as fixing fences, welding, relocating cables or pipes, and replacing light switches. Additionally, you may be assigned to other tasks like waste collection, flood control, ice management, or miscellaneous jobs. As part of the on-call rota (roughly once every 8 weeks), you may need to respond to issues in the evenings or on weekends.

Who are we looking for?

  • You are a colleague with a good work attitude and a positive approach.
  • You have experience operating and working with machines and vehicles, such as saw machines and forklifts.
  • It is a plus if you have technical insight and can repair our machines and vehicles.
  • You have a BE driver's license, preferably also a C driver's license. If you do not have a C driver's license yet, you are willing to obtain it.
  • You can work with a computer and have knowledge of safe working practices. If you do not have this knowledge yet, you are willing to take training courses.
  • You can work independently and want to further develop yourself by following targeted training.
  • If you do not yet meet all our requirements but find this job very interesting, do not hesitate to call or apply! If we think you are suitable, you can still meet the job requirements through internal experience or training.

What do we offer?

  • A nice and varied position, with plenty of time spent outdoors.
  • A supportive team with extensive knowledge, experience, and a strong sense of responsibility.
  • A good work-life balance.
  • The position is classified in job scale 5, with a monthly salary of up to €3,369 gross for a 36-hour workweek, depending on education and experience (as per the collective labor agreement salary scale for October 2024).
  • You’ll also receive a personal budget each month, which can be paid out or used for purchasing additional leave

Special requirements:

  • You must live on Vlieland and have your own residence.
  • The working language is Dutch, so we’d appreciate it if you’re also willing to learn the language.
